10 Years of Cyprus Institute 2005-2015

On the occasion of the completion of 10 years since its establishment, The Cyprus Institute is organizing a series of events to highlight its important research work and achievements.

The Institute, ten years since its establishment and 8 years since its formal operations commenced has succeeded to be internationally recognised as a regional research and educational resource. Within this period many aspects of its guiding vision have been materialized, among them the following:

  • Successful operation of three research centers in scientific fields of regional significance and global interest.
  • Establishment of important research infrastructures
  • Secure significant competitive research grants, mainly from the EU
  • Offer of three accredited PhD programs
The culmination of this celebration will be the first Graduation Ceremony. The commencement speech will be delivered by H.E. President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nicos Anastasiades. Honorary Degrees will also be awarded to three distinguished personalities as recognition for their contributions to the development of The Cyprus Institute: J. Joannides, E. Leventis and R. Cooper.

The following events will take place:
  • Saturday, June 25 at 19:00: Procession of Solar Cars in Ledras & Onasagorou Streets
  • Sunday, June 26 at 10:00 to 13:00: Solar Car Challenge (race starts at Spyrou Kyprianou Avenue)
  • Sunday, June 26 at 14:00: Awards Ceremony, Solar Car Challenge 2016, at the Nicosia Town Hall (event open to the public)
  • Wednesday, June 29 from 10:00 - 16:00: Open Day - The research laboratories of CyI in Athalassa will be open for the public
  • Thursday, June 30 from 09:30 - 14:00: Open Day - Guided tours of the CyI’s laboratories in Pentakomo and Athalassa
    • 09:30: Bus departure to Pentakomo
    • 12:30: Return to CyI
    • 12:45-14:00: Guided tour of CyI Athalassa Laboratories (in Greek)
  • Thursday, June 30th at 14:30 to 16:30, at Novel Technology Laboratory: Panel discussion with prominent scientists about work, achievements and future plans of CyI.
  • Thursday, June 30th at 18:30, at “the Olive Grove”, Delikipos, Nicosia: Event for the Association of the Friends of the Cyprus Institute
  • Friday, July 1st at 11:00 to 12:30: Guided tour of the CyI laboratories in Athalassa (in English)
  • Friday, July 1st at 19:00 to 20:30, Leventis Municipal Museum: Graduation Ceremony. The commencement speech will be deliverd by H.E. President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades. A reception will follow.
