Introduction to Building Energy Performance Simulation

As the building sector faces growing energy and environmental challenges, Building Performance Simulation (BPS) has become essential for designing and operating high-performance buildings, such as nearly/net-zero energy and zero-emission buildings.
This course provides theoretical background, practical guidance, and insights into the modelling process of buildings and renewable energy systems for the analysis and evaluation of their performance. In this framework, the basic principles and functionalities of modelling tools such as SketchUp, OpenStudio, and the System Advisor Model (SAM) will be demonstrated.
Why join?
- Learn to design sustainable, energy-efficient buildings
- Gain hands-on experience with SketchUp, OpenStudio, and SAM
- Develop practical skills through real simulation projects
- Get personalized mentoring and guidance
- Open to students and professionals alike
What you will gain
- Confidence in applying Building Performance Simulation in real-world projects
- Practical experience in building and energy systems modelling
- Skills to identify key design parameters and optimize building performance
Who is this course for?
- Students in architecture, engineering, and sustainability fields
- Professionals (academic and non-academic staff) seeking to enhance their expertise in energy modelling and building performance
Tools you will use
Participants will be introduced to industry-leading tools, including:
-
SketchUp
