Adjunct professor at Cyprus Institute (since 2013) working on issues of the Climate Crisis in the Eastern Mediterrainean and Middle East region (2021-23) as well as in Lemesos as one of the 100 Climate Neutral and Smart Mission Cities (since 2022). Formerly: Professor of Information Systems and Educational Technology (2007-21) and member of the Open University of Cyprus (OUC) Council (2018-21); Academic Chair of the Information and Communication MS Program, OUC (2007-9, 2011-13); Dean of the School of Science and Technology at the Hellenic Open University (HOU) where he was Associate Professor of Soft­ware Engineering 2001-7), and directed the Open and Distance Laboratory for Educational Material and Methodology (2004-7). Researcher and member of BoD at the Research Academic Computer Technology Institute, Patras, Greece (1986-2011).

Educated at Harvard (1971-76), he had industrial experience before his PhD in Database theory (U Patras). At the Computer Technology Institute in Patras, Greece (1986-2011), he directed the Educational Technology and e-Learning Sectors, and R&D Unit “Applied Information Systems”. During 1996-2001 he designed and managed the Greek national project “Odysseia” for the utilization of ICT in schools. Has taught at the Universities of Patras and Thessaly in Greece; visiting professor at the University of Toronto (2010-11) and EPFL (2016-17).

Has served in international bodies (working groups of the Council of Europe and E.U. DG Education and Culture) and advised the Ministries of Education of Greece, Cyprus and Palestine. Has published over 100 papers in international journals and conferences, including a chapter on “Teaching and Learning in the Communication Society” published by the Council of Europe. Has coordinated and participated in over 40 R&D projects funded by the E.C. and national research bodies.

His research interests in educational technology related to m-learning, distance education, internet-related dangers and system design for non-standard applications. Has worked on Human-Robot Interaction, Large-scale Information Systems, and Data and Knowledge Management. His real interest is people, and he has completed an M.A in Theology at HOU in 2011. He hikes in mountains and runs the Marathon. Born in Volos, Greece (1953), lives in Lemesos, Litochoro and Sevilla, is married, has two sons and four granddaughters.
