Prof. Constantine Dovrolis, Director of CaSToRC, Named a 2024 ACM Distinguished Member in Recognition of his Significant Achievements in Computing Beyond the Norm
Prof. Constantine Dovrolis, Professor and Director of CaSToRC at The Cyprus Institute, has been named a 2024 Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Distinguished member, in recognition of his significant achievements in computing beyond the norm. The ACM Distinguished Member designation is a highly selective process, with recipients chosen for their exceptional technical accomplishments and dedicated community service within the profession.
Prof. Dovrolis is one of 56 Distinguished Members named by ACM for their significant impact in the computing field. All of the 2024 inductees are registered members of the prestigious scholarly society and were selected by their peers for significant technical achievements as well as volunteer service to their professional community.
Prof. Dovrolis’ research is highly inter-disciplinary, combining Network Theory, Data Mining and Machine Learning. Together with his collaborators and students, they have published in a wide range of scientific disciplines, including climate science, biology, and neuroscience. More recently, his group has been focusing on neuro-inspired architectures for AI based on what is currently known about the structure and function of brain networks.
“Each year we look forward to selecting a new class of ACM Distinguished Members from among our worldwide association of 110,000 colleagues,” explained ACM President Yannis Ioannidis. “ACM’s motto is ‘advancing computing as a science and profession.’ To fulfill our mission, we rely completely on our volunteers—from organizing technical conferences to editing research journals and managing professional development activities. In turn, all these efforts lay a foundation that supports computing professionals throughout their careers. The Distinguished Members Program not only celebrates innovation but also underscores the value of being part of a vibrant technical community.”
“I am deeply honored” said Prof. Dovrolis on receiving news of the award. “I am happy that this award came now that I work in Cyprus. It is a great time to be pursuing research and innovation in Artificial Intelligence.”
“I extend my sincere congratulations for this well-deserved recognition” noted Prof. Stavros Malas, President of The Cyprus Institute. “This prestigious honour is a testament to Prof. Dovrolis scholarship and outstanding contributions in the field of computing and is an achievement that brings great pride to The Cyprus Institute. We are grateful for Prof. Dovrolis’ invaluable contributions to our academic community”
