Visit by the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate General of European Programmes, Coordination and Development (DG EPCD)
On Tuesday 12th of November 2019, the Permanent Secretary of the Directorate General of European Programmes, Coordination and Development (DG EPCD), Mr. Theodosis A. Tsiolas, accompanied by the Director of Planning, Mrs. Ioanna Kleanthous, visited CyI’s premises in Athalassa.
Hosting the meeting was CyI’s President, Prof. Costas N. Papanicolas, in the presence of senior academic and administrative staff of the Institute. Following a brief presentation, the delegation was given a guided tour of CyI laboratories and other research infrastructures, many of which are renowned in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Region (EMME) and beyond.
In his address, Prof. Papanicolas highlighted that the excellent cooperation which already exists between the two organizations, will continue to grow. He further noted that The Cyprus Institute provides a remarkable contribution to research and innovation, both locally and internationally, attracting significant research funds from local and European sources, and having established a global reputation for scientific excellence.
The Permanent Secretary of DGEPCD stated that CyI is an outstanding Institution of Excellence, which has proven itself many times before and that he firmly believes that CyI has many future prospects. Finally, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to visit, and congratulated the Institute for the impressive facilities and their research achievements.
