Hakan Djuma joined the Energy, Environment and Water Research Centre (EEWRC) of the Cyprus Institute in January 2012 as a Phd student and research assistent. He received his PhD in Environment and Atmospheric Sciences. The title of the thesis was "Groundwater-recharge check dams as a non-conventional water resource technology for semi-arid environments and the assessment of soil erosion and sedimentation”. He recieved his MSc from the University of Amsterdam. His thesis was titled “Anaerobic biodegradation and bioavailability of Deca-brominated diphenyl ether (fire retardants) in Rotterdam Harbour sediment” . He also worked one year as geohydrological and geotechnical engineer in the Netherlands.
