Abstract

The electric and magnetic (EM) form factors of the nucleon are fundamental properties of its internal structure, as they are intimately related to the distributions of its electric charge and magnetization. 

Their behavior in the high-momentum transfer region is of particular importance as it can provide further information to other quantities which are more difficult to obtain experimentally. So far only a handful of experiments have already measured the nucleon EM form factors to high-momentum transfer, however various facilities around the world anticipate to publish updated experimental data on these quantities within the next five years. Theoretically, a calculation of the nucleon EM form factors from first principles is only possible through Lattice QCD, the computational framework for solving the equations of the theory that describes the interactions among the constituents of the nucleon. A Lattice QCD calculation can provide valuable input to experiments, as well as give answers to various discrepancies on the behavior of the EM form factors, arising from non-compatible results between other theoretical predictions.

In this talk, I will present recent results of the nucleon EM form factors at high-momentum transfer from Lattice QCD. I elaborate on a set of methods applied in the evaluation of the form factors, in order to overcome the challenges associated with such a calculation. I compare my final results with the currently available experimental data as well as with the results of various other theoretical predictions, and showcase the importance of the theoretical insight provided by Lattice QCD. Finally, I discuss on the ongoing and future work to improve this lattice calculation.
