CyI Researchers Participate at the Limassol Municipality Conference on "Urban Transport and Built Environment. Tram as a good practice" Featured
With a rich range of topics covering, among others, traffic congestion relief in Limassol and the case of the tram as a means of sustainable transport solution, an important conference was held on March 18, 2025, in which experts from Marseille presented good practices and case studies in France.
Dr. Konstantinos Kleovoulou, Assistant Vice President for Innovation and Development at The Cyprus Institute, coordinated the panel discussion focusing on the role of citizens and social innovation in shaping the city's transport future. The panel, which included the Mayors of Limassol and Nicosia, Mr. Armeftis and Prountzos respectively, and other academic and technical experts, discussed the success factors for such a project, the advantages which a fixed-track public transport system such as the tram can have, and the challenges that need to be addressed in order to solve the traffic problem of Limassol as a whole, and not piecemeal.
The event was held within the framework of the “LC3: Lemesos City Cooling Challenge” program, which is co-financed by the European Union, in which the CyI participates as a Partner.
