Dr. Kypros F. Milidonis is an Assistant Professor in the Energy Department of the Energy, Environment, and Water Research Center (EEWRC) at the Cyprus Institute (CyI), contributing to the multidisciplinary research activities of the Advanced Renewable Energy Systems (ARES) group.
He received his integrated Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Aeronautics from the University of Patras in 2008, followed by his doctorate in 2014. After a short postdoctoral appointment at the same institution, he joined the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge as a Research Associate from 2015 to 2018, focusing on advanced energy conversion systems.
His work lies at the interface of thermal sciences and advanced energy systems, spanning fundamental heat transfer and thermofluid processes through to the design and development of integrated renewable energy technologies. His research focuses on novel components and systems that improve the efficiency and operational performance of renewable energy technologies, with a strong emphasis on solar energy, including concentrating solar thermal systems, thermal and electro-thermal energy storage, and multi-energy system integration.
Dr. Milidonis leads projects across the innovation spectrum, from fundamental theoretical research at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 1–4 to pre-industrial applications at TRL 5–7, combining advanced computational modelling, experimental validation, and system-level optimization. With extensive experience in academia and close collaboration with industry, he has participated in and managed competitive European research projects as Principal Investigator and/or Coordinator, including a project funded by the prestigious European Innovation Council (EIC) Pathfinder programme. His recent work also advances the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the design and optimization of thermal and energy systems.
