Demetris Ioannides is a Research Affiliate at the Cyprus Institute (STARC). He received his PhD in Archaeological Sciences from the University of Cyprus (2022), completing the first systematic study of Late Bronze Age metallurgical ceramics from the island.

His research explores ancient technologies of copper and other metals in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean, combining geochemical and microstructural analysis to reconstruct metallurgical processes, technological choices, and chaînes opératoires. Alongside metallurgy, he also studies ceramic assemblages, including metallurgical ceramics and utilitarian pottery.

He has contributed to several interdisciplinary projects, including the Marie Skłodowska-Curie ITN “NARNIA” (FP7, 2011–2014), the Keros Project (A.G. Leventis Foundation), Commercial Patterns Across the Sea – ComPAS (ERC Starting Grant), Metal Places (Interreg Greece–Cyprus), and studies of copper production at Apliki and ancient Paphos. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, and regularly presents his research at international conferences.
