Aims of the project
The main aims of the CIVMME project are:
- To develop tools for identifying changing risk to human health from vector-borne viral disease, establish areas with high disease transmission potential and asses how that potential may change over time as a consequence of climate projections.
- To identify the presence of vectors of Chikungunya and Dengue viruses in Cyprus, which would inform national vector control programmes.
- To generate risk maps for transmission of vector-borne viral diseases (including Chikungunya and Dengue viruses) for exploitation in implementing vector surveillance/control strategies to prevent autochthonous transmission within the EMME.
- To establish and improve modelling techniques for vector-borne viral diseases, initially focusing on Chikungunya and Dengue, forming the basis for expansion to modelling of other vector-borne diseases in the EMME.
